The EMET 2016 provided Borouge with a valuable opportunity to ensure its leadership in the plastics industry and underline its global role as a provider of innovative, value creating and sustainable polyethylene and polypropylene based solutions for infrastructure and construction sectors, as well as for other industries including energy, mobility, packaging, healthcare and agriculture.
Held under the patronage of His Excellency Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Oil in the Kingdom of Bahrain, the EMET 2016 conference is an ideal platform for Borouge to network with producers and service providers to learn about the evolving trends, technologies and solutions in the light of the challenges facing the ethylene industry.

Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, Borouge’s Senior Vice President Middle East Africa (MEAE), said that EMET Conference provides a unique opportunity for Borouge to demonstrate its portfolio of differentiated innovative polyolefins including High Density Polyethylene, Linear Low Density Polyethylene, Low Density Polyethylene and Polypropylene, as well as to share knowledge on the latest developments and technologies used worldwide for the production of ethylene.
“We see the event as a perfect venue for us to strengthen our market positioning in Middle East and Africa as the leading polyolefin (polyethylene) provider for infrastructure and construction sectors. EMET Conference also enables Borouge to connect with our valued customers and business partners and seek potential opportunities to expand out customer base.”
As long as more infrastructure development projects are being undertaken everywhere in the world, driven by the growing urbanisation and the creation of mega-cities, polyethylene and polypropylene materials will be demanded, added Al Suwaidi. “In the Middle East, we see an increasing demand for highly engineered polyolefins for infrastructure systems (including pipe systems and power and communication cables) compared to traditional materials, due to the light weight, environmental and other advantages of plastics.”
Organised under the theme ‘Sustaining Ethylene Competitiveness through Solution Sharing’, the Conference brought together professionals seeking to share their technical knowledge and optimise their positions in the fast evolving ethylene industry by increased operational efficiency, sustainability and excellence.
During the EMET event, Borouge highlighted its role in supporting and developing the petrochemical industry in the UAE and its outstanding position in providing innovative and sustainable polyethylene and polypropylene solutions for various industrial sectors and applications.
A large number of key ethylene producers, professionals and experts attended the Conference where they networked and shared practical experiences, generated ideas for reducing costs and maximising return and created value on issues related to planning, design, operation and maintenance. The participants also discussed various topics ranging from Furnace Performance Improvement, Critical Equipment Reliability and Integrity to Energy Conservation and Sustainability, Maintenance Planning & Execution, Feed and Production Optimization and Process Safety.
orouge was represented at EMET 2016 by Ibrahim S. AlZaabi, Vice President Olefins, as well as Mohamed Saeed Al Hajeri, Process Safety Leader.
