Borouge and Borealis strengthen their commitment to the Energy industry, announcing the successful start-up of the XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) compounding plant at Borouge’s world scale production facility in Ruwais, UAE. The XLPE plant is designed to produce solutions for the Energy industry based on the reputable Borlink™ technology platform, ensuring delivery of industry leading super clean, low scorch XLPE, forged from almost 50 years track record in the development of insulation systems.

Building the grids for sustainable and reliable energy supply
The Energy market in China continues to set new standards in energy generation and High Voltage network development, seeking to embrace sustainable, innovative solutions whilst increasing power capacity.
The recent implementation of the Borlink™ HVDC XLPE solution at the heart of China’s first and highest rated ±320kV 1000MW transmission cable system demonstrated the innovation that Borouge and Borealis bring to allow the energy value chain to pursue higher transmission voltages over longer distances.
On energy transmission, Borouge and Borealis will showcase its next generation Borlink HVDC XLPE solutions that allow the use of extruded cable technology at ±525kV, offering the industry a step change in power transmission capability.
Borclean™ Film solutions, the latest addition to the Energy family will also be on showcase. Specifically designed for better energy storage, Borclean delivers industry leading cleanliness allowing the thinnest dielectric film solutions for power network components that provide the building blocks of China’s staggering Ultra and Extra High Voltage grid development.
Ensuring safe urban living
Borouge and Borealis place safety at the heart of their business and products. Based on the Visico™ scorch retardant technology, the new low fire hazard compounds are halogen-free, silane cross-linkable insulation and jacketing systems for building wires and photovoltaic cables. Used together with the specially designed catalyst, these compounds exhibit excellent processability and scorch resistance, combined with good mechanical properties and flexibility whilst meeting industry standards for fire performance and safety.

The Borouge 3 plant expansion in Abu Dhabi will be fully operational in 2015. Borealis and Borouge will then have approximately 8 million tonnes of polyolefin capacity.
