Low Voltage Cables
Consistent reliability is crucial in the delivery of power on a local level. Population growth and urbanisation are driving the expansion of low voltage networks across the world. This means cable manufacturers have to be able to increase their output, while maintaining product quality.
Low voltage cable insulation solutions
Borouge and Borealis offer a range of insulation products for all major types of low voltage (LV) overhead cables, including thermoplastic solutions. In addition, Borouge they have advanced solutions based on the Borealis proprietary Visic™/Ambicat™technology for moisture cure, crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE).
Optimising XLPE production output
Visic™/Ambicat™ reduces the complexity and costs normally associated with the production of high quality, moisture cure LV cables.
Delivered in pellets, Visic™/Ambicat™is a two-component system, fully quality controlled. It consists of a base material and a proprietary catalyst. The latter ensures fast crosslinking in ambient conditions, ease of cable processing and minimal downtime.
Other key features of Visico™/Ambicat™ are:
- A unique scorch retardant technology
- Less time required for cleaning extruders
- Longer production runs
- Increased output and quality with standard extruders
Visico™/Ambicat™ allows for a higher production volume than any other XLPE cable insulation technology.
End user/network owner benefits
Visico™/Ambicat™ lowers the risk of power outages through:
- Higher thermal resistance
- Long-term weatherability
- Retention of insulation properties
- Ability to handle temporary overloads without damage to cable
The Visico™/Ambicat™ insulation system has a low impact on the environment. It contains neither flammable liquids nor harmful additives and the catalyst is free of tin. Moreover, the crosslinking process of Visico™/Ambicat™ does not require elevated temperatures and associated energy consumption.
