Over the past decades, information technology has developed at a tremendous pace. The need to transmit larger volumes of data more accurately has grown along with it. In a matter of ten years, cable performance has skyrocketed from 100 Base-T (Cat 5E) to 1000 Base-T (Cat 6). In the near future, capacities are expected to reach 10 GBase-T (Cat 6A-Cat 7).
Consequently, data cables working at frequencies as high as 1200MHz, need to be optimally insulated with materials that show consistent electrical properties. Borstar® HDPE insulation compounds fulfil the requirements of high performance data cables.
Borouge carries a line of high density polyethylene (HDPE) insulation solutions for high performance data cables. It includes solid, as well as chemically and physically foamed insulations.
Borstar® HDPE insulation compounds particularly provide superior dielectric properties and insulation performance, resulting in superior processability and a stronger signal at high frequencies.
Electrically clean feedstock is the basis from which all Borstar® HDPE insulation compounds are made. During production, Borcell™ cellular compounds they are optimised to aid the formation of uniform, evenly distributed cells in the foamed insulation during cable extrusion, creating a number of advantages:
- Improved adhesion to the conductor
- Increased crush resistance
- Very low dielectric losses
- Higher transmission reliability up to 1200MHz
Borstar® HDPE insulation compounds offer excellent chemical and physical foaming in cable extrusion. Therefore, they can achieve between 50-80% foam expansion in a wide variety of conditions, making them the ideal insulation material for data cables. Thanks to their improved flow attributes, melt elasticity and purity, Borstar® HDPE insulation compounds raise production output and lower cost levels by allowing:
- Geometric consistency of insulation
- Improved dielectric consistency
- Higher extrusion speeds
- Less extruder downtime for cleaning
- Longer production runs
- Increased twisting speed due to improved crush resistance
To complement its line of Borstar® HDPE insulation compounds, Borouge has an extensive range of Casico LSZH materials for FR jacketing communications cables. Casico LSZH compounds can be processed easily at high line speeds.
